February 3, 2008EdCom: Personalised Digital Learning
February 3, 2008
In this episode of EdCom, I talk to both Rick Williams and Raph Zadey of Blackwood High School in the Adelaide Hills. This year, Rick and Raph are implementing a Peronalised Digital Learning Project (PDL) for some of Blackwood’s year 8 students and in this interview, Rick and Raph talk about how they will be using PDL at Blackwood and what outcomes they are hoping for for their students at the end of the year.
Podules working scripts
January 11, 2008
I’ve added a resources page to the MP.com website and on them, I’ve included the working scripts that Mel Jones and I used when we were recording Podules. The scripts give some information about the basics of podcasting, in bullet-point/note form, as outlined in my Podules podcast. They’re meant to supplement Podules rather than take its place, so I strongly recommend that you listen to the audios as well.
EdCom: Moodling the classroom
January 9, 2008
In this episode of EdCom, I talk to Cherie Pickering, ICT Co-ordinator at McLaren Vale Primary School in South Australia about ‘Moodling the classroom.’
Cherie is a natural teacher and communicator and you can see this as she gets around the school grounds, full of enthusiasm and encouragement for the kids. They love her and she loves them … but she also takes no bull.
In this interview, we hear about Cherie’s experiences of using an online learning management system to connect with the kids and engage them in learning in ways that suit them.

Podules Ep 3: Podcasting system and equipment
January 9, 2008
Obviously, podcasting needs some kind of computer and microphone set-up. This podule takes you the basic requirements for recording audio for the internet, including the type of device you record into and the types of microphones you might need. Podules Ep 2: The format of your podcast
January 9, 2008
You’ll need to think early on about the format of your podcast: will you be conducting interviews? Giving info on a topic? What about the running time? You’ll also need to think about how much ‘fresh content’ you’ll be able to generate. Good planning will ensure that you get the format right for your intended audience. For more information, keep listening to Podules and visit www.meganpoore.com.
Podules Ep 1: Conceptualising your podcast
January 9, 2008
Where do you start with podcasting? It might seem like a big thing to get going at first, but break it up into smaller steps and you’ll find yourself underway in no time. Start your podcasting project by thinking about focus, topic, audience and format. For more information, keep listening to Podules and visit www.meganpoore.com.
Note: For those subscribing to Podules via iTunes, for some reason, my EdCom interview with Greg Black downloads instead of Podules Ep 01. I’m working on it, but it doesn’t look promising … you might have to download this episode manually … sorry

Upcoming podcasts
January 8, 2008
I’ll soon be releasing the first of each of the EdCom and Podules podcasts on MeganPoore.com. EdCom is a podcast for educational comment in Australia and brings together a wide variety of voices and viewpoints — if it’s got to do with education, you’ll hear it on EdCom. Podules, on the other hand, is a smaller, advice-type podcast that gives those new to podcasting tips on how to go about creating your first podcast — basically, it’s a podcast about podcasting … a metapodcast, if you will!

I recently spent three, totally full-on days in Adelaide, interviewing a wide variety of people for EdCom. Here are just some of the conversations you can look forward to:
- Greg Black, the CEO of education.au, talking about futures thinking in education
- Ruth Geer, lecturer at the University of South Australia, explaining some of the challenges for international students presented in the Master of Teaching program
- Cherie Pickering, a former teacher at McLaren Vale Primary School, describing her experiences with implementing Moodle in the classroom
- Rachel Faulkner, Learning Unlimited Service Manager, giving us insights into how Mission Australia provides educational opportunities for disengaged young people
- Susan Hyde, Jude Hines, Rick Williams and Raph Zadey, all of Blackwood High School, covering a range of topics from the learning future to philosophy and education to next year’s trial of a Personalised Digital Learning project
- Lillie, a year 9 student, going some way to explaining why students of that year level have a reputation as being a bit ratty in school
- Kerry Johnson, Education Officer at Education Network Australia (EdNA), having a ball with EdNA’s 10th birthday celebrations in Second Life
- Priya Subramaniam, Law tutor at Flinders University, discussing the effects of commercialisation on universities
And many more!
I really hope you can join us on EdCom, and, don’t forget, if you want to suggest an interview send an email to edcom@meganpoore.com.
